" I have always wanted to visit Portugal and so honored and excited about this opportunity the town of Nazare has offered. I cannot wait to meet the people and experience the culture. I have heard Nazare has amazing seafood and pastries, not to mention a wave like Jaws but on a sandbar, what more could you ask for !! I always get extremely excited to explore a new break and Praia do Norte should provide some awesome challenges. I just talked to Kelly Slater and he told me how narly it is which is how I like it!!! "

THIS IS PRAIA DO NORTE

UNKNOWN, CHALLENGING, POWERFUL, BIG, IN PORTUGAL… 

These words define really well the waves at praia do norte beach in Nazaré/portugal. 

This beach is located by the influence of a natural phenomenon called "canyon of Nazaré“. 

This large-scale oceanic fissure is the largest in Europe and one of the largest in the world with over 170km in length and 5km depth. This phenomenon keeps the waves with all their strength and energy until they reach the shoreline, assembling prodigious waves. 

This, combined with the correct wind direction creates exceptional conditions for tow in surfing or big wave paddling.

Estas são sem duvida palavras que sem pretensão, definem na essência as ondas da praia do norte da nazaré. 

Esta praia de características únicas no mundo está localizada sobre a influência de um fenómeno natural apelidado de “canhão da nazaré”. Esta fissura oceânica de grande escala é a maior da europa e uma das maiores de todo o mundo, atingindo 170 km de comprimento e 5 km de profundidade. 

Em termos de surf, este fenómeno faz com que as ondas mantenham toda a sua força e energia até atingir a linha de costa que combinadas com a correcta direcção do vento, geram ondas de dimensões épicas em tamanho e força ideais para a pratica de desportos como o tow in ou surf em ondas grandes.

THE NORTH CANYON SHOW BY GARRETT MCANAMARA is a simultaneous action of exploration and promotion that will join one of the biggest icon in terms of big waves, GARRETT MCNAMARA, to one of the most recognized Portuguese surf spot : PRAIA DO NORTE at Nazaré.

The goal of the exploration concept is to discover the potentialities of Praia do Norte for the practice of surfing in big waves (padling and tow in).

The visit of this international surfing icon will also help on the promotion of the first big wave event that will taking place on Praia do Norte: The North Canyon 2012.

THE NORTH CANYON SHOW BY GARRETT MCANAMARA trata-se de uma acção simultânea de exploração e promoção que irá juntar um dos maiores ícones internacionais em termos de ondas grandes, GARRETT MCNAMARA a uma das principais praias nacionais, conhecida pelas suas ondas gigantes: A PRAIA DO NORTE da Nazaré.

O conceito de exploração surge com o intuito de estudar e descobrir em pormenor todas as potencialidades da PRAIA DO NORTE para a pratica de surf em ondas grandes.

A visita deste ícone desportivo internacional servirá também como acção de promoção do primeiro evento internacional de ondas grandes a ter lugar na praia do Norte da Nazaré em 2012: THE NORTH CANYON.
